Many times, while connecting to a wireless device it is not shown in Windows as a list of available devices. In fact, the status of Network and sharing center in the Notification Area shows it to be disabled. While troubleshooting, the error which is shown says that Wireless Capability Turned Off. In such cases, it can not be enabled by Non-Administrator accounts. To resolve such issues follow the methods listed below.
Windows Network Diagnostics TroubleshooterFirst, run the Windows Network Diagnostics Troubleshooter and see if it can detect and fix the problem. Right-click the network icon in the notification area, and then clicking Troubleshoot problems.Or you can open Settings Network & Internet Status and click on the Network Troubleshooter link. This will open the Network Troubleshooter or Windows Network Diagnostics tool. If it does not help try any of these methods.Method 1: Most of the laptops have a tiny switch on the side (or front) of the laptop that turns the wireless ON/OFF.
Make sure you’ve switched it on.Method 2: Do the following:. Click Start, type network and sharing center in the Start search box and hit Enter. Click Change adapter settings.
Right-click the connection and select Enable.Method 3: By installing the latest driver for the wireless network adapter obtained from the manufacturer a majority of connection problems within Windows 7/8/10 have been solved. Download and install the Windows compatible drivers for support site of the manufacturer of your laptop and check if the issue gets fixed.Method 4: To enable the wireless adapter, go to the admin account by enabling it and there run the network troubleshooter and see if it can fix the problem. To enable Admin account in Windows 10/8/7, open an elevated command prompt window, type the following and hit Enter: netuser admin active:yesNow log off, and you can see a new Admin account at startup. Run the Network troubleshooter here. After getting admin privileges, it can auto fix the issue in most of the case.Method 5: If nothing works for you, you may use the feature.

Hi,For a few days now I've found an issue with two of our laptops (around the same time). They won't show any networks that they could connect to in the connect menu (windows 7). Windows shows the adapters plugged in and enabled and when running troubleshoot it tells me to flick / press a hardware switch for the adapters and when this fails due to the switches already being on it reports 'wireless capability is turned off'. Tried replacing the adapters in both machines / switching them around but still no change, windows recognises them but nothing found and the same 'wireless capability is turned off' error appears. Also tried looking at power saving modes in device manager but they were already disabled. Any idea what could be causing this issue?ThanksJamie. Molan wrote:what brand laptop?
Some Lenovo laptops have a hotkey that will disable the wireless at the bios level causing this sort of issue. You may have to go into the bios to re enable itI have a lenovo laptop that has a physical switch on the side that turns wireless functionality on and off. It does not disable the card, so it still shows up, but wireless just doesn't work. On most laptops however, there isn't a physical switch but rather a keyboard command using the Fn key. Usually it is Fn+F3 or something similar. Just look for a wireless icon on the F keys. If the BIOS is up-to-date and the WiFi has worked on the PC before, ensure the WiFi network is working on some other PC.

Verify any WiFi hardware switch is ON and can be verified.WIN7-since you stated you have WIN7, be sure the MANAGE WIRELESS NETWORKS is showing in the upper left corner. If not, the wireless driver is (1) bad, (2) not installed, (3) the wrong driver, (4) the wireless card is not connected or gone bad. Open the PC and check the physical connection (again) if a laptop, (5) Take the PC to Starbucks or some location with WiFi and see if it can see their network, (6) disconnect the ethernet LAN connection.Give us some details-Brand and model of laptop, driver name and number and date-sometimes there are multiple drivers listed on the manufacturers website and choosing the right one is a hunt and peck issue till you find it.When you said 'Windows shows the adapters plugged in and enabled' where are you looking? I worked as IT for some hotels and one guest had trouble connecting to the wi-fi.
After trying some things, I looked at the keyboard and pressed the key combo to disable wi-fi(Fn key+something else) then re-enabled it. Wi-fi started working and I left. A few hours later I got a call from her saying she couldn't use wi-fi again after rebooting her laptop.I went to check and, sure enough, no wi-fi. She then told me she tried the wi-fi switch and nothing helped. Somehow, using the keyboard combo had interfered with the hardware switch setting! After much perspiration and head-scratching, I got the wi-fi working by completely uninstalling and reinstalling the chipset and wi-fi drivers, as well as the drivers and software for the hotkeys(it enabled the hardware wi-fi switch, volume control, etc).
I think reinstalling the hotkey software was the main fix.I'd definitely recommend trying that.If you want to check if the hardware itself is fine, why not try booting Linux off a USB stick? I find that's a great way to eliminate hardware issues from the equation and focus on Windows/drivers.

Hi,If you do not have HP Wireless Assistant installed on your computer and you do not want to install it, you can use the Windows Mobility Center to turn wireless devices on and off.Windows Mobility Center only allows all wireless devices to be turned on or off-wireless LAN and Bluetooth devices cannot be turned off individually, as they can when using HP Wireless Assistant. The action of the Windows Mobility Center control is independent of the wireless device power switch. Thanx for the response.
Battle for middle earth key. I tried installing the wireless assisstant but when I open it nothing happens. I also tried the windows mobility center but that doesn't even give the option to turn wireless on or off but I can see it says its off.
I even tried going to device manager and enabling the radio on/off but that didn't work either. I downloaded the drivers using another laptop's wireless connection and tried installing but that doesn't help either.I don't mean to be difficult but it really feels like I have tried everything. I am using win7 professional by the way.
